The Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival for this year is scheduled to occur from October 27 to November 5. The event will place a significant emphasis on South Asian cinema.
Kareena Kapoor starrer The Buckingham Murders, directed by Hansal Mehta, will kick off the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival this year. The movie is a joint production by Ekta Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor.
Jio MAMI Film Festival 2023 Lineup
The 2023 lineup will also showcase prominent films such as Hirokazu Kore-eda's Monster, Bradley Cooper's Maestro, Anurag Kashyap's Kennedy, and Justine Triet's Anatomy of a Fall. As per the reports, the festival will showcase an impressive array of content, including more than 40 world premieres, 45 Asia premieres, 70 South Asia premieres, and 13 different sections.
In addition to Monster, Maestro, and Anatomy of a Fall, the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival's captivating World Cinema selection encompasses films like Wim Wenders' Perfect Days, Madeleine Gavin's Beyond Utopia, Pedro Costa's The Daughters of Fire, Hong Sang-soo's In Our Day, Pedro Almodóvar's Strange Way of Life, Ken Loach's The Old Oak, Aki Kaurismäki's Fallen Leaves, and Alice Rohrwacher's La Chimaera.
Anurag Kashyap's crime noir, Kennedy, will be presented in the Gala Premier South Asia category, alongside Tahira Kashyap's Sharmajee ki Beti and Rajat Kapoor's Everybody Loves Sohrab Handa.
The South Asia Competition segment includes films such as Sumant Bhat's Mithya, Leesa Gazi's Barir Naam Shahana (A House Named Shahana), and Fidel Devkota's The Red Suitcase. The Focus South Asia section (Non-Competition) presents titles like Varun Grover's All India Rank, Vinod Rawat's Pushtaini, Karan Tejpal's Stolen, and Milin Dhamade's Mai.
In the Icons South Asia category, you'll find Vikramaditya Motwane’s Indi(r)a’s Emergency, Anand Patwardhan's Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, Prasanna Vithanage's Paradise, and Mostofa Sarwar Farooki's Something Like an Autobiography.
The special section called After Dark, curated by Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival's Jongsuk Thomas Nam, will feature the restored version of Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy, celebrating its 20th anniversary in November; Late Night with the Devil by Cameron Cairnes and Colin Cairnes; Dream Scenario by Kristoffer Borgli, and Night of the Bride by Virat Pal.
The Recap segment will showcase films from 2020 and 2022, including Aparna Sen's The Rapist, Prasun Chatterjee's Dostojee, and Payal Kapadia's A Night of Knowing Nothing.
